Hosting (review)

First I've hosted at godaddy.com. I've spent $20 on 3 domains for 1 year + better then basic shared hosting account for a month. Feeling happy I was, having bought all the goodies to play with later. But not for long:

  • DB servers are lagging badly
  • Control panel is weird and cumbersome
  • No shell access
  • No unzip ability
  • no CRON

And great support on top of that, no kidding. They are very fast and professional. Actually I've chosen godaddy.com because I once was working for my customer, who is hosting there and when support was needed it was lightning fast and very effective.
While choosing a new host I've found a few nasty stories about godaddy.com and thought that it is better to stay away from godaddy in particular and from US registrars / hosters at all, cause I don't want to suffer cause someone invent this thing

After some explorations I've found myself a new host: hostgator.com

  • They have CPanel
  • Everything I currently need, CRON, Shell Acess etc.
  • DB on the same server as web, works A LOT faster then those I had on godaddy
  • Great support. Although they are slightly slower thn godaddy, sometimes they answer an email each 2 minutes, a couple of times there were delays for like 20-40 minutes

While choosing the host I've found the coupon for gator, making nice discount for their not-so-basic plan cost just 1c for the first month. So if you need a hosting company to consider, costing you 1c for the month (which is more then enough to come to conclusions about their service) - feel free to hit the croc here: And don't forget to enter the coupon code, like this one: wordpress
